Sports Stories and Life Lessons

UCLA Bruins honor Nick. Very touching ESPN video about a great young man and his influence. It also reminds me that there are no guarantees for tomorrow and the end can come very quickly.

Basketball culture and young men. Grantland. ESPNMag. Grantland has slowly become my favorite source for good sports stories. They and ESPN do a great job on this sad story about a high school basketball star who tries to go pro out of high school and ends up not making it. Now, in his mid-30s, there is not much else he is qualified to do. It is about a culture more focused on ego than character and money more than maturity.

NCAA fraud, monopoly, cartel, and greed . Or, what happens when billions of dollars are run by those who benefit from it. Or, the downfall of college sports is the greed behind it. This story is one of hundreds illustrating the problems in the system and how the money and win-at-all-costs mindset are destroying what used to be great amateur sports.

Sports and gays. And finally, a look at what is happening in American culture regarding homosexuality and those who believe sex outside of marriage (and that would be marriage to someone of the opposite sex) is sin. A position I certainly hold and believe the Bible to teaches. It looks like my position is now the new hate speech not to be tolerated.
